helo this section of the website for the musical group health&beauty is for members of the press or venue/promoter folks to get some photos and text and such. here is a litle place where some things about health&beauty get said that may be fit for consumption by a person who hasn't been paying attention to health&beauty for too long, so they can kind of get a rough idea of what it is he/we is/are up to in a general sense, like in a 2-year plan kind of sense, whereas someone who wanted to know that in a more specific sense as in like 'what are you up to right now' might go to the news page for just one example. ok have fun i hope you like the text and the album comver!

Health&Beauty is a Chicago power trio of considerable stylistic range & ambition. Begun in 2004 & steered throughout by Brian J Sulpizio's songwriting & arrangements, the ensemble passed through various formations before reaching its current order featuring the caring musicianship of Dan Siakel on drums and Nick Morrison on bass, who together accompany Sulpizio's guitar & voice. The melodies themselves tend toward inflicted lullaby, reaching for languor mid meant pain only to arrive on refrains that nod austerely at popular form—yet the songs end up ancillary to the occasion for the group, which works through improvised approaches toward a prized component of deliberation, a kind of ever compounding cause for some energy.

Taken in part, the band can evoke the frenetic, transcendental angst of Sonny Sharrock, the deliberate & variant sharp noise of Derek Bailey, the hitting blues-rock of JSBX and drive of Cheetah Chrome, the entrancing sustain of Sunn 0))), the compositional dexterity of the Dirty Projectors, the ephemera & pulse of the Sea and Cake, & the harmonic tendencies of the Smashing Pumpkins, but the show really moves through these things.

Health&Beauty has played and headlined venues all around Chicago like the old Fireside Bowl, the Subterranean, the Empty Bottle, the Metro, the Double Door, the Hideout. It has also traveled to Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Bloomington and St Louis once or twice. It has a song called Too Boring which is set to appear on the DVD extras to the movie Good Dick. It has another song called King of Interpol that is featured in the documentary Thax, about Thax Douglas, Chicago’s rock&roll poet, who has read a poem called Health&Beauty for Health&Beauty on a number of occasions. It was picked as one of the Illinois Entertainer’s “Top Ten” of 2004. It has a song called Dust that was played regularly on Q101’s local show, which also accompanies an elaborately animated short film made by Ryan William Sigg of Portland, Oregon.

Health&Beauty is currently available for performances between Chicago and the north-east coast of the USA from October 3 – 19, 2008. This marks the first in a series of tours behind the recently released It Was Almost Certainly a Small Child (included) and the upcoming The Cottonwood Leaf, Fallen, Likens to a Rat Having Died.
